My classroom serves a lively group of gifted ESL learners in grades 3-8 who are absolutely amazing with an insatiable curiosity for technology. They also love reading and discovering new things! This uniquely diverse population of scholars comes from bilingual, low-income homes in the inner city and sometimes the language barrier creates challenges for them. Unfortunately, we lack the resources to adequately support their needs.
Dismissal is the saddest part of our day because of the captivating digital experiences my 21st-century learners navigate through during our school day.
As they attempt to navigate the digital world they live in, my scholars embrace challenging activities that make them really think critically. In some cases, the gifted population is underserved and does not receive the same resources as other groups. My gifted students lack access to technology resources both during and outside of the school day.
I strive to use a variety of strategies that employ an innovative and interactive approach to prepare my scholars to become global leaders.
The Cricut Maker machine is an amazing tool that allows my students to help create and develop their financial literacy skills and make a variety of useful products that they can market to others. These materials and vinyl will be used to create labels for group projects and on banners that display their products and wares. It will also allow them to personalize items such as school boxes, backpacks, books, hats, T-shirts and binders for items used as incentives in the school store that our scholars help manage. We also create gifts for family members on Mother's Day, Father's Day and Teacher Appreciation Week.
Creating products using the Cricut helps students develop technical skills, high order thinking, creativity and complex problem solving skills which are skills that are on list of "The 10 Skills Every Entrepreneur Needs to Develop".
Resources like these provide opportunities to enhance the fundamentals of creativity while challenging scholars to express individuality in their ideas, all while learning in real-time about entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
