This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our first grade day is packed full with reading, writing, math, science and social studies, OH MY! In order to maintain structure and order in our classroom, we need our materials at our finger tips and not have to worry about where our pencils or glue sticks are.
I teach at a Title I school in the city of Philadelphia.
It is a diverse school with a wide range of student abilities. In a few short weeks, my classroom will be bustling with 30 first graders, all of whom receive free. This incoming group is energetic, inquisitive, and eager to learn!
My Project
My students will learn how to take responsibility for their materials. Each student will receive a pencil bag, 8 sharpened pencils, one eraser and one glue stick. It will be their responsibility to keep track of their necessary materials all week! On Friday's at the end of the day, I will check pencil bags, if the student still has their 8 pencils, eraser and glue stick in their bag, they will receive an incentive (classroom money, a small special eraser, a special pencil, etc.).
This will help students be accountable for their materials and make our day run much smoother, because they will not be searching for their materials, it will all be at their fingertips, in their pencil bag on their table.
