My students come to art each week ready to create and try new things! We aren't afraid to get dirty and explore different materials from paint, paper mache, and probably their favorite- earth clay! My students range in grade from kindergarten to fifth grade. They bring with them an enthusiasm for the arts and learning.
Our school strives to encourage students to be independent thinkers and creative problem solvers while developing a growth mindset.
We are not a STEM school but are currently developing a makerspace lab where students will experience the design process. In art, I try to help the students make connections between the fine arts, their other subjects, and the world around them. I am excited for students to see the similarities between the design process and the way we create, refine, and share our artwork.
Our school is a neighborhood school located just west of Milwaukee, WI in the suburb of Wauwatosa. We are lucky that our district, school, and families support the arts, and we'd love your help, too!
My Project
Help inspire the artists in my classroom by donating a variety of architecture building materials including citiblocs, wooden blocks, and straw connectors. Students will have access to these materials during specific building and problem-solving units as well as when they have completed their learning target for the day.
It has been shown that block building and purposeful play can benefit students' problem solving and collaboration skills.
It will give them a tool to express their imagination in a 3-D way instead of just drawing, painting, or being limited to clay and paper for sculpture. Students can strengthen their spacial sense and fine motor skills as they build and assemble structures. These architecture materials will also allow for students to work together and practice making decisions within a group and sharing ideas in a room where we generally work on individual art projects.
