This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are recently-arrived immigrants and refugees, coming from more than 26 nations and speaking over 30 languages. They come to us with all kinds of imaginable and entirely unimaginable experiences, assets, contributions, skills, gifts, and needs.

The courage our students show in facing daily challenges of life here in the US, in an effort to forge a hopeful future for themselves and their families, is nothing short of inspiring.

They are resilient, fun, caring, and deserving of everything that we can creatively muster to provide for them.

My Project

For this project, students will create architectural models based on geometry. They will research different architects around the world - analyze styles, influences, deconstruct the art, identifying psychological content found in the symbols and images and their relationship to industry and society. They will create plans for, and models of architectural structures that reflect their own personal and cultural values, symbols, and representations, utilizing critical thinking to make sense of problems and persevere in solving them, and demonstrating creativity and innovation. They will apply the technical architectural skills of drafting and designing, and construction in addition to applying their academic knowledge of geometry (area, perimeter, scale factor, 2D and 3D, measurement, modeling, congruence, similarity).

Students will collaborate in teams to research, analyze, and reflect upon current patterns and styles in the architectural structures in Oakland and the feelings they evoke.
