Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are 6th-grade, special education students. They have intellectual, sensory, and emotional impairments that are aided by inclusion in a small classroom setting. My students struggle with mathematics concepts, and this year our goals are to build confidence in our foundational math skills and to become more engaged with our learning.
My students work together as a community based on their learning styles and interests.
They work very hard, and a big issue for them is the retention of topics. I am always looking for new and interesting ways in order to help them to thrive and remember different topics. We are a part of a large school that celebrates inquisitive learning. All of my students are working hard towards high school and college by relating all of their topics to real-world situations.
My Project
My students work very hard and they do not always have access to the best materials coming from a low income area. The program we are using, Green Architecture from Project Lead The Way, only provides a paper architectural scale for students to use.
A concrete actual architectural scale ruler will help my students proceed in their Green Architecture unit for our STEM and STEAM program we have implemented with out 6th graders!
This may be hard for students to use, and they will become more damaged than if they have access to the actual metal ones that can be purchased. If asked to purchase these, many of our students families will not be able to afford them. I would like to provide each student in my classroom with one of these rulers!
