Help me give my students a magnetic design center, puzzles and building kits, engaging and developmentally appropriate hands-on activities to help build future architects, engineers and scientists! Oh my!
My students are cute, smart and eager to learn. They are all 4 to 5 years old and are preparing themselves for success in Kindergarten. My students are from low-income families in Akron, Ohio. I have 18 students in the morning and 18 students in the afternoon.
Helping little learners practice math, science and engineering skills in engaging and developmentally appropriate ways is one of my goals as a teacher.
This creativity, curiosity and imagination can lead to many life-long skills! Not to mention giving the students motivation that they can grow-up to be anything they dream to be!
My Project
During the school day, we have whole group lessons, small group lessons and free time during centers. These materials will be used during all three lesson opportunities and will be able to be used for years to come - therefore serving an unlimited amount of students.
These materials will help students develop crucial problem solving, critical thinking and math skills.
They are also developmentally appropriate and engaging.
Students will be introduced to these materials either through whole or small group lessons. Sometimes a read-aloud will be used to introduce a topic, such as Roller Coasters, Buildings, etc. to get the students excited about a concept. Students will be shown how to use the materials responsibly and safely and then during center time, students will have opportunities to explore and experiment with the materials.
