My Students
I have the privilege of teaching a special group of students. They range from the age of 14 to 21. My students have various disabilities. The disabilities range from learning disabled to having a physical or a cognitive disability. My group of eager learners do not let their disabilities stop them from growing and learning. Every day is an adventure in the classroom, and being able to give them the physical tools to get ahead and grow gives me great joy.
The students in my class come in every day, excited and ready to learn new things!
They are eager to see their friends. They are eager to use the materials that are not available to them on a daily basis at home. Seeing their faces glow when they see new things in the classroom makes my day.
My Project
Ecolife conservation gives us the perfect definition of aquaponics. "Aquaponics is a sustainable method of food production combining aquaculture (raising aquatic animals) and hydroponics (cultivating plants in water with added nutrients)". Bringing this system gives my students many different learning opportunities. Opportunities like: learning about the life cycle of a fish or how a plant grows, maybe even some engineering and math lessons too. The possibilities are endless.
Although my students may have autism I don't plan on limiting their learning opportunities.
They do not stop learning because of their diagnosis. In fact, they push beyond the limits to beat the odds that are against them. I am there to help them push the limits.
