My students need a visual representation of how nitrogen and carbon is cycled in our atmosphere through plants and animals such as fish.

My Students

Our school is an awesome school with high achieving students. We are a small school district that is doing great things with less resources. I love to teach science as a technology and hands-on based classroom.

My students are constantly craving more hands on, visual projects in my classroom!

Our district wide initiative is to incorporate more STEAM projects in our schools.

Our students are great thinkers and problem solvers. They need tools to give them experiences that they normally would not have.

My Project

Every day students will visually see the relationship between plants and animals in an aquaponic setting when they enter the classroom.

The grant will provide an aquarium type atmosphere where fish and plants will interact and actually provide for each other.

The plants will be fertilized by fish waste. The plants will filter the water for the fish. Students will truly understand this mutualistic relationship and be able to see how nitrogen and carbon gases are passed between the organisms.

This is also a great example of responsible farming techniques where fish and produce can be grown with little to no impact on the environment.
