My Students

Teacher, teacher, I don't understand what we did in math today! Teacher, teacher, I don't know what that word means! Teacher, teacher, how do you spell that? They are all working at different levels academically and their needs are so different!

Our school is a public school with over 600 students.

We have students at all academic levels with varying amounts of home support. Many of our students are English Learners or socioeconomically disadvantaged. Having access to technologies can fill in some of these gaps for our neediest students and can also offer challenges to our students who are eager to move beyond the regular curriculum.

My Project

Imagine the most seriously struggling readers in the class working on a sight word app while the class is silent reading! Imagine small groups of students using iTouches to do research on a science topic! Imagine any student having the ability to take a comprehension test on a book they have just read using our school's Accelerated Reader system! Imagine the value of students getting instant feedback on their progress toward learning their basic multiplication facts! Imagine 7-year-olds using an electronic dictionary to work on vocabulary skills! The possibilities are endless!

Because the App Store is a constantly changing world of options for our students, the possibilities are endless for using iPod Touches in the classroom!

Not only can struggling students work on skills they so desperately need, but advanced students can expand and explore beyond the second grade curriculum! This is an incredible world of opportunity for 29 second graders!
