Appreciate Who You are and What Makes You Special!
My students need 24 copies of the Whingdingdilly to promote and apply higher level critical thinking skills of the Common Core State Reading Standards.
"Appreciate who you are and what makes you unique and special."
The enduring lesson in this literature is one that inspired my third grade students this year, and one that I hope will remain in their hearts forever.
My students are part of an integrated, multicultural classroom, with abilities ranging from below grade level to beyond grade level.
They are positive, excited to learn, and love when I model reading to them in a variety of genres.
My school strives to meet the needs of all children, and the whole child. This includes fostering academic, social, and physical well being. We place emphasis on building character as Martin Luther King Jr. stated, "Intelligence plus integrity is the true measure of character."
My Project
We used the one copy of the book I had this year and made flip books using the icons of depth and complexity. This was quite a challenge to provide students with the individual interaction with the book to examine it further and delve into the main idea and details of the book, while choosing the most important evidence to apply to their prompts.
Having their own copies will provide them unlimited interaction to glean knowledge, reread with partners, discuss, and apply the higher level thinking skills such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation by producing a product that is meaningful and demonstrates their understanding of the theme.
Young children are exploring who they are, why they are important, and what truly matters.
Oftentimes, they do so based upon what others do and say.
My continual goal is to instill within them that they are special, unique, and precious just the way they are.
I want them to appreciate who they are and what makes them special.
If you are a donor, and are reading this, you will be creating a legacy in the life of every student of mine.
