My classroom is full of students who are emergent bilingual learners. All of my students are learning English. My emergent bilingual learners are either recent arrivals or brand new to the country. My students bring a wide variety of cultures, languages, and experiences to the classroom in order to create a diverse learning environment.
In addition to learning English, my students are expected to expand their knowledge in order to reach the 2nd grade Common Core curriculum state standards.
My school is a small inclusive public school that is part of a large urban district where over 75% received free or reduced-price lunch.
My students are emergent bilingual learners or ELLs and need extra language support in all content areas. An iPad in the classroom can support my ELD level 1 students or higher because it can provide remedial support but independently. The independence factor is essential, especially in a class of 20 students who are classified as ELLs. This allows me to support my lowest English language developers while also freeing up my time to support the rest of my class.
An iPad supports my students in phonics, reading comprehension, math, academic language, and the English language!
There are so many educational apps now that can support students in their learning. These apps can be implemented in individual support, small groups at centers, or whole class (the dream to have a class set of iPads). Additionally, my students would harness their 21st century technological skills, which are increasingly essential these days. My students need this iPad to help begin to build a class set. The case is an essential component to help protect and take care of the iPad.
