My students need equipment and supplies (dust brush, safety glasses, wood glue, etc.) to build projects that will help enhance and apply skills that are not learned in the regular educational setting.

My Students
I have a Career and Technology Education program at a high school, Refugio, Texas that includes woodworking, cabinet making, and drafting. My classes include any student in high school, from 9th grade to 12th grade, and includes both male and female students.
We were affected by Hurricane Harvey, and were not able to start school until September 11th, so we were behind before we even started school.
When the hurricane hit, many of us were trying to clean up our homes, and helping within the community. Most all of our students are low-socio economic and on free or reduced lunches. They learn to make do, but many students are still living in homes that are not repaired, they are just able to live there. The hurricane blew out the windows in the shop and blew the shop garage door completely off. The rains ruined all of our drafting desks and drafting equipment, so many of the students shared equipment. And with the doors missing, all of my sanders and hand tools for the woodshop class were stolen.
I was very proud of my students, they were able to build some small projects and take a finished product.
My Project
We use drafting tools, such as the architect scales to do their drafting assignments. The students can design their own project in which they apply measurement and geometry concepts. The students design, measure, cut and build their own projects. We need supplies such as glue, safety glasses, and small hand tools that will withstand constant use. The students need a quality spray gun that will allow them to apply a finish to their project.
This year we were only able to build small projects, such as cutting boards, letter openers, and jewelry boxes.
Because of Hurricane Harvey we had a late start, and supplies were limited. With enough support we hope to be able to build more this year.
