Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are amazing, marvelous, and challenging on many levels. They come to school excited, eager to experience an exciting lesson. I often refer to them jokingly as “challenging customers” that refuse to accept second best. As I try my best to provide excellent customer service to my clientele, I find that it is never enough to just teach.

It is a journey to discover how best to serve every single one of my students and get them ready for college and for life, and I am enjoying the ride.

Our school is a Title I school in Atlanta where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students are facing many socioeconomic challenges that hinder their academic success. As I observe them interact with one another, enthused about a lesson, I regain my conviction that a future is possible and achievable for all my students.

My Project

Having a good knowledge of finances today will ensure a future of good financial decisions for all of my students. The Ipad my students have recently received will help my students take part in the many games available to learn more about finances.

This iPad will allow them to utilize apps such as "Bankaroo" that will teach them about savings, money and its value in a subtle way, and it is important that we have accessories to protect the longevity of the iPad and make it useful to students in various ways.

I imagine a set of Ipads with students playing in groups learning more about their money; the one in their pocket today and the one they will earn tomorrow. With your help, they will be on the path to Applifying their financial knowledge.
