I teach young adolescents, 13-15 years old, in eighth grade. The middle school's enrollment is about 600 students. We are a low-socioeconomic school. My students come to me with a diversity of backgrounds. My students are merged into our middle school from two smaller elementary schools. My students live in rural communities. Some of my students come from homes that don't have access to the internet. A majority of my students are being raised in single-parent homes or by their grandparents.
My students are enthusiastic about math when they have the opportunity to collaborate with one another and use various forms of learning materials.
I have the opportunity to teach all levels of students within my eighth-grade classes. I begin my day with an upper-level group of students that take high school Algebra in the eighth grade. My second block is a co-taught classroom, where I have 25 students with different needs. Of my 25 students, 21 of them have some type of accommodations that have to be met. My final block class consists of average students that take the required Pre-Algebra class in eighth grade.
My Project
The iPads we currently have are outdated. The Apple pen will not work with any of the iPads that our school now has. The Apple pen requires a newer model in order to be able to write on the iPad.
The newer model iPad will allow my students to be able to provide feedback by peer editing for one another by using the Apple pen.
My students will be able to upload their documents and assignments to Microsoft one drive. Here they can share the documents to the class. The Apple pen will be utilized in critiquing the work and making assessment about the work.
When the students are not using the iPad, I will be able to use the iPad and Apple pen to provide instruction to my students. I will be able to move about the room while writing on the iPad. By moving about the room, I will be able to focus on what students are understanding and which are not. This will especially be helpful when assessing my special need students. The Apple tv in my room will project the lessons onto the smartboard for the students to be able to follow along with me. I will also be able to use the camera feature to show student work on the smartboard as well.
