My students need an Apple TV and an iPad to reflect their work from iPads onto the screen for research projects. A wireless printer will be placed in the room for student access.
Silicon Valley gives new technology to the world, but a lack of funding in the classroom. The 21st Century Kindergarten classroom should have as much access to new technology as the rest of the world.
In a collaborative teaching environment of 90 students, it is important to teach to all types of learners.
We have a significant amount of English language learners that come into our classroom. By the time they get to an intermediate level, they are at an English proficiency. Most of our students come from families with both working parents. We are neither a Title I school that gets funded by the state nor in a community of high income parents. Recently our district has started to request more technology experiences for elementary students in order to prepare our students for Common Core. In order to utilize technology students need to have access to it. A tool like an iPad or Apple TV will help aid in group or one on one instructional practices.
My Project
Having a multi-touch screen at their fingertips will enable students to manipulate the 21st Century. Our collaborative group of 90 students will work on rigorous projects geared to Common Core Learning Standards. As they work together using their iPads, others will be able to see it instantaneously with a touch of a button on the Apple TV.
As a teacher, I want my students to be engaged in learning. The use of iPads and an Apple TV will allow students to be in control of their learning. While I, in the role as a facilitator, am making sure students are seeing the correct visual, thinking about the content, and wondering about questions to further their process.
We are creating inspiration through technology.
Kindergarteners will use this experience to build a platform. In order to engage students in learning, we first need to create an environment in which they can be successful. The modules provided through this project will enable students to explore their curiosities with technology of the future.
