My students need a Mac Book Air to increase the technology available in their classroom and to add to financial literacy and allow them to research class projects.
I teach at a high poverty school. I have many bright, eager students who really want to learn. They struggle because often they do not have the background knowledge that many of their peers have. They do not have the financial literacy background that they need to be successful.
My students come to school ready and eager to learn.
School is the place that they feel safe and accepted. It is often the most stable place they encounter during their day. Many of them cannot ever see the "light at the end of the tunnel" because they, and their families struggle with meeting basic needs. If I can help them to see that there are so many possibilities out there for them, I can help them see a future that is bright.
My Project
Having the Mac Book Air will help integrate technology into my classroom. It will work with the Apple TV and iPad that I use in the classroom. I hope to set the Mac Book Air up so that I can begin to use a class money system, and they can track their own progress. They can see that working hard earns them money, and that can directly affect their understanding of how money works in the real world.
Students today are ready to use technology on many levels.
They understand it, almost intuitively. Every bit of technology that I bring into the classroom helps them to interact differently with lessons. Since so many of my students are low income, they don't have technology at home. School needs to be the place to expose them to all of the options available.
