Apples and Oranges: iPad Apps for Math Class
My students need an iPad to access the educational Math programs and applications Apple provides.
There are some wonderful educational applications that demonstrate various mathematical concepts for the students using iPad. Due to proprietary software rights we need an Apple iPad to gain access to this educational software.
A snapshot of our middle school shows a diverse high-need school comprised of about 1100 students in grades 6 to 8.
Half of our student population receives free or reduced priced lunch. Approximately half of our students receive support services in addition to their core classes. Many of our students are not native English speakers. The students have all been impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The children have lost time in school, some lived without power or heat for weeks, and many families still can not return home due to water damage.
My students need an iPad to access the educational math programs and applications Apple provides. An iPad works in a manner that lends itself to a students' interest in technology. It simplifies many of the geometric concepts that are more difficult to demonstrate without the use of some of the applications that have been primarily designed for iPads.
I have looked for various applets and applications that are compatible with our PCs, but there are better ones that work with the iPad software/interface.
Please help my students gain access to the world of Apple.
