Independence High School has a need for 1 high speed Apple laptop (G4). This Laptop will be used by students to create computer art. This grant will benefit Independence High students by aiding their design skills with a powerful computer, enabling students to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop with ease. These skills will help them both in school and in the job market. I currently teach computer/art and also work as a literacy specialist & leadership advisor/teacher. Independence High School is an alternative school serving a student body population of around 400 in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD). 30 students will use this Apple iBook laptop in the first year, and student use is expected to increase even further the following year. Students will benefit from this equipment in several ways: the students are given the opportunity to learn cutting edge software and technology hardware; they gain knowledge in art and computer; and this, in turn, provides them with marketable career skills, which they will use in many different environments.
