My Students

Our School's Student Programs serve students with various challenges. Our students face communication, behavior, sensory, cognitive, and physical challenges daily. Many of our students are non-verbal students with Autism and other challenges, which require us to differentiate instruction. Although our students may struggle in some areas, it is glaringly apparent that they shine in a multitude of other ways.

Every kiddo in our class has their own unique learning style, and using certain technologies provides them with opportunities to learn new things in ways that suits them best.

Not a single day goes by that we don't celebrate student successes, big or small, as they are all important and worthy of celebration.

My Project

In my classroom we utilize tablets for learning throughout the day. These are great learning tools, however, they are expensive. To encourage group learning through technology, I would like to use Apple TV Apps, which are available through the iTunes store, to teach social skills, functional math, support communication skills, create class specific social stories, and "take" students on virtual adventures that prepare them for real world outings.

Research supports the benefits of using specially developed Apps for the development of communication, positive behavior skills, supporting sensory needs, and increasing social interaction/development, through the regulated use of of technology.

My students benefit from this method of instruction and I would like to use it on a larger scale; small group and whole class settings.
