Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enrolled in the Business Management and Hospitality Academy at a large comprehensive high school. The school is located in the middle of a large urban city. About 93% of the student population receives free meals twice a day and they come from low-income families. Many of my students will be the first to graduate from high school and will be the first generation to attend college. About 70% of the students come from immigrant families. I have students who are new to the country and are struggling to learn the language and the culture. The learning academy has its challenges for different student learners. Daily instruction consists of core classes with connections to business management and hospitality. Combining these concepts with history can be challenging but creating projects and incorporating current events that bridge the concepts together provide students the opportunity to apply the concepts to real-life.
In our classroom, projecting and discussing is essential to learning in the 21 Century classroom.
My Project
The capabilities of live streaming are endless in the daily lives of our students. The ability to live stream current issues as they are happening is an essential tool in education. As our students break waves with apps and online material; education should also be at that forefront. Technology in education is vital to learning for the 21st century student, they can see how technology can be a tool to become successful in school.
Having an Apple TV will enhance the learning of my students daily in the classroom.
An Apple TV will allow to mirror students final projects on investing in the stock market as part of their financial literacy unit. Students will track the stock market and create a spread sheet of the numbers. They will convert the information into graphs and charts and create an infographic. They will present this information and provide a one page investment guide for students.
This Apple TV is a platform students understand how to operate showcasing how technology can enhance learning. When students present their project and hold a discussion, mirroring their devices will be easy to showcase their work. An Apple TV can mirror from iOS devices which students are constantly using and this Apple TV can be a platform for students to use their technology properly in an educational setting.
Having this Apple TV to mirror during presentations is only one way , this can lead to other projects students can create using their personal devices and not be restricted to school Chomebooks which has limits of what students can create. Students would be able to mirror videos, presentations, reports, better graphics for projects and be more creative. This Apple TV will also benefit all the current students and future.
