In our second grade class, we start the day with a high energy morning meeting & continue with Whole Brain Teaching and Brain Breaks to keep our bodies moving while we learn. Technology is integrated as much as possible, keeping engagement high!
My students are an excitable group of second graders.
The class is made up of a wide range of abilities in reading, writing and math. The students value each other and our classroom community. My students are very eager to learn, and especially love when this learning involves technology. After having another project funded that allowed us to have 2 iPads in our classroom, my students creatively published multiple writing pieces using this technology. They taught ME how to use some of the tools within different apps on our classroom iPads.
My Project
An Apple TV in our classroom will help our learning in a variety of ways. First, it will allow the teacher to model new apps and various learning on the classroom iPads by projecting it onto the Promethean board. Currently, the teacher has to have all the students crowd around to see new apps used in real time. The ability to project the iPads on the Promethean board will also allow students to 'be the teacher' when they discover new tools on learning apps. Students will also be able to share presentations made on the iPads, even when the app does not allow the presentations to be uploaded to a computer.
The teacher will be able to use the wireless keyboard to get out from behind her laptop in order to lead guided writing lessons. The keyboard can also be passed between students to add to shared writing on the Promethean board. These shared writing projects can then be presented using various iPad apps and projected onto our Promethean board with the Apple TV.
I truly believe that my second grade students are growing up in a time where it is extremely important to be exposed to and to be able to use different forms of technology.
By allowing my students to learn how to use an iPad through teacher modeling - using the Apple TV, as well as being able to teach each other and present, my students will be even better prepared for the world of technology that they live in. My students will be able to use and teach others about technology.
