"If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace." - Franklin D. Roosevelt
My classroom consists of a diverse group of middle school students with many different needs who love to investigate, create and learn.
As a special education teacher, it is my job to provide opportunities for all students to learn in different ways to meet their diverse learning needs. It is important that my instruction includes audio, visual, and kinesthetic aspects enabling all students to access information. Although my students have many learning challenges, they are eager to learn and become better students in math, science, social studies, and English language arts.
My Project
Recent studies have shown that students with autism, auditory processing, and other disabilities can become highly engaged learners using the iPad and other technology. Our classroom needs one iPad to help these students learn by engaging them visually, auditorily and kinesthetically. Applications on the iPad will project to the interactive board and help students with math, science, reading and social skills. Students will take turns using the iPad and keyboard to complete assignments, learn California standards, practice through learning sites, and connect directly with the teacher lessons on ActiveInspire. I have already made flip charts to be used on the iPad and Mac for place value, space, and two-digit multiplication. The Apple Pencil will help students compute their work.
This project and your donation will make it possible for my students to inquire and experiment in technology and open up the unlimited possibilities of learning.
You will provide the opportunity for students to ask questions, research, and be successful with technology.
