My students need 2 iPads with cases in the classroom so that they can have technology at their fingertips. The apps will allow for a fun, organized, and engaging way to learn!
Mention the words APPLE or iPad, and my students know exactly what I am talking about. I am constantly amazed at how informed they are on the latest and coolest "apps" to check out! I want to use this latest piece of technology in the classroom to excite and inspire my students even more!
About us: We are a neighborhood school located in New Haven, CT.
The students who attend this school are eager to learn and are very creative. We are also a HOT school, which encourages higher order thinking skills and Arts integration. Our students take part in many performances throughout the year, which honor our school's diversity and our country's major milestones. With our school's cultural diversity also comes educational challenges such as a high English Language Learning (ELL) population. Finding fun and varying ways of teaching is a priority at our school!
My Project
There are so many educational and "cool" features associated with the Apple iPad that my list could go on forever. For my students and I, the iPad Air and iPad Minis contain features such as, iPhoto, and iMovie which we can use to document special projects, activities, and performances. Since the iPads are WiFi capable, my students and I would be able to send these photos/movies directly to parents via e-mail! Another special "app" that I would be able to download on the iPad Air is called "Confer", where I type in observational notes while conferring with my students during reading, math and writing workshop. This "app" allows me to upload data which could then be easily e-mailed to parents highlighting key teaching points. The students would also be able to use various educational "apps" on the Air and Minis to enhance their learning or technologically enhance their projects such as, Mayan Multiplication, Story Creator, and Prezi!
Having these iPads in the classroom will not only be totally amazing, but also aid in motivating reluctant learners.
I value exposing my students to various technological devices because we live in a world in which understanding how to navigate computer programs, and build technological skills is a necessity. I believe adding these iPads to my classroom will not only garner my students' excitement, but also keep them interested in learning twenty-first century skills.
