My students are Special Education Students who are performing below their grade levels. They are in Kindergartner and third grade but their functional level is K-1 grade. They have disabilities like Emotional Disability, Intellectual Disability, Autism, and ADHD. My students require hands-on activities to encourage student engagement and community-based learning/involvement. We are working on skills like recognizing names, making good choices, controlling my anger, reciting and writing personal data, and work based skills. We work on counting and making purchases from vending machines and our visiting community stores.
The technology and listening center is a must have center or station in every early childhood classroom, but not all technology and listening centers were created equal. In the past, the listening center has been a source of frustration for many teachers and young children. From tangled headphones, to frequent changing of the CDs or cassettes, and constant fast forwarding and rewinding – the listening center can quickly lead to problems. Having wireless earbuds and iPad will help utilizing learning goals.
A way to have a listening and technology center is one of the station in the classroom where students can have fun learning and use independently.
