Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very eager to learn about computers. I wanted to take advantage of their interest and provide them more opportunities. I have thought of teaching specific programs that will build on their interest leading to skills that can help them in the future, be it in school or in real life.
Our students come from very under privileged families.
Most of them live with their grandparents. Some of their real parents made bad choices in their life that affected the children. It is heart-breaking that the kids are in this situation. I was thinking that if we teach them the skills they would need to succeed in life at a young age, they have a better chance of "changing their own stars" when they get older and learn that life isn't filled with bad experiences.
My Project
The students will receive hands on training on how to create and edit videos using iMovie. They will also learn about iPhoto to edit pictures which goes hand in hand in creating beautiful movies. The program will run from three to six months and it will be offered to students yearly. Two computers may not be enough but this will get us started. We plan on requesting more once this project has been funded.
Just like in a trade school, our students will learn about life skills that will benefit them when they enter this program.
I have seen impressive works of students at the CUE conference. The video that one student created seemed like the work of a professional. This motivated me to take part in teaching our students learn this skill and help them enhance their talents. With the help of donors, our students' dreams will turn into reality.
