My students need virtual reality software and equipment to completely be immersed in historic places they are learning about and very well never be able to travel to. This immersion allows them to experience ancient worlds.
My students are resilient and eager learners. They are consistently wanting to explore life and ancient history. My students are diverse from many ethnic backgrounds and in one class three to four cultures can be represented. Also, I have ESL students who are Vietnamese and Hispanic. The students I teach completely inspire me and have processed historic thinking into a term Empathetic Reality. Through many adversities, my students strive to be the best and continue to aspire to reach academic goals.
These virtual reality headsets will allow my students to venture into ancient worlds and experience the environments in history. The students can have an interactive view of ancient life. Through learning they have built an expectation of what ancient environments were like and through virtual reality they can have a simulated reality of those worlds, building a greater appreciation and understanding of history.
Students should leave a classroom experience with empathy for people and places in history and this will afford them a more in-depth learning encounter and confidence in any historical subject matter.
This process of learning, thinking and relating allows students to critical assess history.
