My Students

I teach agriculture in a small rural agricultural community. Students are from a very low income community and have many struggles at home that we will never know about. School opens up doors for learning that will help them become successful adults and the agriculture classroom helps guide many of our students in career choices. My students strive to be better and do better and through education, we can help with with that. The students and community are loving, care about the educational opportunities, and support our agriculture department tremendously. My students are motivated, hard working, ambitious, and extremely interested in new lessons brought into our agriculture classroom, especially hands on lessons. Being a small community we are hit hard financially with needs and it is important that we keep education a #1 priority.

My Project

This project teaches students hands-on skills that they can take with them later in life. Beekeeping is something each students could learn and take home and start their own apiary. Students learn about the importance of beekeeping to society as well as learn how to care for honey bees throughout the year. Now that we have the project on campus, it gives students who otherwise would not have a project to work on for their agricultural record keeping, a project they can be involved with in school and outside of school. Students learn care taking skills, communication skills, marketing skill, and how to process food items properly. This project would ensure my students would be able to continue their education and project.
