My students need sixty-five copes of Murder at the Margin, thirty copies of 5 Steps to a 5 AP Microeconomics/Macroeconomics study guides, two Black Dry Erase Markers w/Erasers packs, and two Expo Dry Erase Marker packs.
Our district is allowing us to pilot a new economics/government/English course for our Seniors. This new Pre-AP and AP curriculum is designed to be an interdisciplinary approach similar to a long held course titled "American Studies" that many schools have implemented over 10 years ago.
I teach in a gifted program in a highly diverse low socio-economic high school setting.
At 87% we have one of the highest percentages of students qualifying for the national free and reduced priced lunch programs. Our school and our program are one of the most successful AP college prep programs for socio-economically disadvantaged students in the entire state of Illinois. A few years ago our AP scores for our program were the third highest in the nation!
The students in our program average a robust 29.4 on ACT test. We are very proud of the college and career opportunities this program provides for the students in our community.
My Project
I am requesting sixty-five copes of Murder at the Margin, thirty copies of 5 Steps to a 5 AP Microeconomics/Macroeconomics study guides, two Black Dry Erase Markers w/Erasers packs, and two Expo Dry Erase Marker packs. The Murder at the Margin books are going to be used as an essential supplementary reader for this new course. These markers will allow the students to practice graphing on small white boards at their own desks when we do group graphing exercises.
I am team teaching an English/Macro-Micro Economics course, and these reading selections will be used for our non-fiction writing and analysis projects. We will also be having Friday seminar reading/discussion days throughout each semester of these two courses. This course is being developed as part of our district's new "Academies Program." My co-teacher and I are developing a non-fiction reading-based curriculum utilizing the thought processes of the field of economics as the focal point of our academy's theme, which is business and management. My two AP economics courses (MACRO-MICRO) will feature these readings as their supplemental materials which will also be the basis for the English coursework component of our English-Economics hybrid course.
These materials are another step towards integrating our new technology and supplemental materials into the hands of the students.
The book is one of the last supplemental materials for this new course.
