Computers are part of everything we do! Computer Science is giving our students the opportunity to problem solve real-world challenges, and develop life-changing skills.
Our high school is a suburb on the coast of Georgia.
We are one of the fastest growing towns in Georgia that is increasing in diversity. In effort to offer more rigorous classes and prepare our students for college, we added AP Computer Science this year. In January 2014, I will have two classes of 25 students each, all of which anticipate furthering their education beyond high school. My students are eager to learn about designing and implementing computer programs using the language of Java. These skills will prepare them to be competitive in their university acceptance and future career paths.
My Project
We are creating a new lab for our computer science students, but need a projector and laptop for presentations. The projector will allow material to be presented to the whole class. Students need to see the information being presented to follow along. Not only will the projector save time, but it will improve student attention, understanding of information and retention of information. The laptop will give us a computer for presentations. Students will take turns programming for the class from this laptop. The laptop will help us transition between our lab and our classroom.
Donations to this project will not only allow my students to prepare for the AP Computer Science Exam, but also build knowledge and skills that they could potentially be using for their future career!
