Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students work hard but do they do not have book to review for their AP exam. The computers provided by our school district also have many restrictions, so saving files and collaborating has become very difficult. They have been asking for network-attached storage so they can save a share files.
Our students have many obstacles they are trying to overcome.
These include poverty, language, and lack of resources. Even though it might get difficult at times, they always seem to work through their problems. There are many students in this class that will be the first to graduate high school in their families, so they have something special to look forward too. This makes them persevere and work harder than the other students. These students have only been programming for weeks, but they have found a new passion and most of the students said they will now consider a career in a STEM field.
My Project
The materials chosen have a specific purpose and were chosen by the students. First, they have chosen an Apple mini computer. This computer was chosen due to its small size and portability. The students would like to create a small network-attached storage and file server, but they wanted to lock it up after its use. Our school district implements many policies on the school computers and saving and sharing files can be a chore. The size of the Apple mini was perfect for their plans. It is smaller than a normal sized book, and powerful enough to do exactly what it is intended for. Secondly, they chose a Galaxy Note tablet. Our class works best when all students are collaborating and this tables was designed especially for handwritten notes. This will help students share work digitally and provide a way to project handwritten notes onto the board. Finally, they students chose to ask for AP computer science test review books to study for their exam.
This project will improve the classroom by providing study materials and additional technological resources for the students.
It will also help stimulate work between student teams and help the students share information and knowledge.
