Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I teach 9th- 12th grade students Calculus at McKinley High School in Baton Rouge, LA. I am finishing my first year teaching at the high school level. I was previously teaching pre-calculus and calculus at a local university while working on my master's degrees in mathematics and education. I found that my calling in life is teaching and preparing students for college level mathematics. Local students here are poorly prepared for college mathematics, in terms of content gaps and study skills. I teach four classes of AP Calculus a day. One of my main objectives is to be able to get my students to be able to pass the Advanced Placement exam in order to get college credit. It is very important to have good resources to help my students learn and study for this exam. Since it is my first year, I have very limited resources and most funds that come into my school are aimed towards low level mathematics. I have been evaluating study guides and have found a study guide book that has a lot of the review material and practice exams. It has been hard as a first year teacher to create assignments and projects to prepare students for this test. Will you consider funding 25 study guide books? I appreciate your consideration.
