Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most of my students come from a single-parent household and will be the first in their family to go to college. Some come from households where college is not an option because they have to take care of the rent. I am a product of this school, and I came back to teach, to show students that success is definitely within reach. My students are taught to stay hungry, humble, and to always be the hardest worker in the room. My innovative students have the drive to succeed, but they fail to have the proper resources to stay competitive in the collegiate world. My students understand that hard work will always pay off; I'm hoping that you can lend a hand in making sure that their great efforts don't go unnoticed.
My Project
My students will be able to apply their mathematical concepts in a realistic world setting. Math will no longer be learned in theory, but rather by practice. Students will be able to learn projectile motion, architectural design, trends in climate change and carbon dioxide emissions, and much more with these graphing calculators. I am training my students to become STEM-ready and motivated by the time they enter college.
For instance, students will be able to understand the relationships with relatable functions and how they relate to its instantaneous rate of change.
Students will be able to analyze key components of the graphs to predict behavior. Almost all real-life scenarios have real-life calculations. With your generous donation, they will be able to get concrete solutions while understanding the full nature of what the TI graphing calculator can do.
We are in dire need of strong innovative leaders in the STEM fields. Students often don't find they're niche until they get to college. I'm hoping to amplify their interests in STEM prior to entering college. In the long run, these students will not only change the world, but they will also serve as models of success in our school and community.
This year, many of my students are taking AP Calculus. They have the goal of not only passing the course but also the AP Calculus AB Exam for college credit. With your help, they can have the upper hand in excelling in the course and be able to tell their parents that Calculus is, indeed, easy!
