Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Can you imagine the look on a parents face when their son or daughter comes home with a painting they can frame and put on the wall? A painting can put them over the edge into earning that scholarship or be accepted to that college. With only pencils and paper this dream is still just a dream.
Our goal is for every student to get into the top colleges and universities across the country.
They wear uniforms and take advanced courses that help achieve this goal.
F.D. is located in the inner city of Los Angele's in the shadows of downtown. Crime, gangs, and drugs are a daily occurrence for many of our students, yet they don't let that get in the way of their goals of getting into the top colleges in the nation. Through numerous AP courses, rigorous lessons that don't settle and a staff that fights for the students, F.D. is making a difference in the community.
My Project
These resources will not only help the intro class, which is most students at are school because art is a requirement, but students who are building portfolios with an eye at a college for art and in their future a career. They will be using these materials to paint, draw, an create through their imagination. These supplies will help to express themselves through the visual mediums. I am requesting canvases, quality pastels, a drafting desk and acrylic paints.
Most of my students entering my class have not taken an art class or taken any lessons, yet through their hard work and a little pushing they are entering prestigious arts programs like Ryman Arts at USC and being accepted to colleges with majors in art.
For many students one year is not enough and are wanting art 2, 3 and hopefully next year AP art.
In a recent study it has shown that African American and Latino American students are in a steep decline in the number who have taken art classes
