Mr. Richmond from Fairburn GA is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need support from donors to acquire materials that will enrich and enhance the teaching of AP African American Studies, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of African American history, culture, and contributions.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
As I embark on teaching the pilot AP African American Studies class, I am committed to continuous professional growth by attending relevant conferences, collaborating with experts in the field, and engaging in research, all of which will enable me to bring the most current and comprehensive knowledge to the classroom, fostering critical thinking, cultural understanding, and a nuanced appreciation of African American history and its impact on society for my students benefit.
Furthermore, I will actively seek out professional development opportunities specific to AP African American Studies, such as workshops and seminars, to enhance my pedagogical strategies and content knowledge.
By staying informed about the new scholarship, research, and resources, I will be equipped to deliver dynamic lessons that engage students and encourage them to think critically about the complexities of African American history and its relevance to contemporary issues.
In the classroom, I will apply what I've learned by utilizing a variety of teaching methods, including discussions, group activities, multimedia resources, and primary source analysis, to create an interactive and immersive learning environment. I will incorporate diverse perspectives and voices to ensure a well-rounded understanding of the African American experience, covering topics such as the African diaspora, slavery, Civil Rights movements, contributions to art and literature, and contemporary social and political issues.
As the first opportunity to teach AP African American Studies, I am excited to lay the foundation for future classes and inspire a new generation of students to explore questions, and appreciate the rich legacy of African Americans while fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
