This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 6th graders are little sponges for knowledge. With the owl pellets they will be able to see what an owl's eat instead of pictures in a book. They will learn the beginning of lab dissections that will need in high school and beyond.
Our school is situated in a quiet bedroom community of a much larger city but shares the same school district.
The students come from a cross section of both town's population. The student population comes from three different primary schools so there is an influx of new student every year.
My Project
The materials that I have requested will be used for hands on science enrichment for the entire 6th grade. They will be used to supplement the curriculum over and above the text book. Most of this equipment will be used for many years to come.
Owl's are an indicator species for the health of the environment. Through dissection the students will learn about the owl's diet and health. They can then make a prediction about the health of environment that the owl's live in.
Students need to see and touch for a concept to become real.
A picture in a book has no real meaning to them where as hands-on is not only visual but can to touched and manipulated. Please consider donating to this project and help us raise our academics.
