Help me give my students an outlet for their creativity while learning. This year my students like to move while learning and I do not have enough manipulatives in my classroom.
This year I have an amazing class of 23 students. My students this year are very busy bodies. This year I seem to have a lot of students that like to learn using their hands and bodies. They are a high energy group and need to move for most of their learning. I would like to do some fun learning with them when they first come into the classroom to peak their interest in learning and to get them moving right away. I do not have enough manipulatives in my classroom to implement a program called "STEAM Boxes."
My Project
With these manipulatives, I will create "STEAM Boxes." The boxes will have items in them that students use as a challenge to invent things from a task card and then they will be writing about their invention. The task card will have objects such as; bridges, bicycles, houses, structures that can withstand three books, etc.
These materials will be used first thing in the morning when students come in.
They will have a STEAM box at their group table and will have task cards. These task cards will explain what the student will be inventing with their STEAM box. The “STEAM Boxes,” will also be used to pair students who need to socially improve, working in groups. These boxes would be a motivation to those who do not like to work together. I would like to implement "STEAM Boxes" and an "inventors corner," in my classroom. The inventors corner will be used when students finish working on assignments that are given in the core areas of our day. In order to do this I will need to buy some manipulatives that I do not have right now in my classroom. I have invested about $150.00 into the project, but I need $150.00 more worth of manipulatives to put into this project. Please consider donating to this worthy cause.
