My Students
It is important for all children to have access to books that tell stories about people who look like them.
I teach at a two-way bilingual school in an urban area and, although we learn in Spanish for most of the day, my students are a mix of both English- and Spanish- dominant children from diverse families. All of my students are eager and excited learners who love to gain new knowledge through books!
My Project
This past summer I took several courses through a local university to attain an Urban Teaching Certificate. The courses stressed how important and powerful it is for all students to have ample classroom materials that reflect their identities. It is also critical for children to learn about people who share their identities who have made a difference in the world. The books I am requesting can provide my students with access to more stories that do just this.
You can be the one to provide my students with more books for our classroom that reflect student backgrounds. My students will see positive, influential examples of how diverse people have made a difference in our world.
