Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enrolled in a 50/50 model of a Spanish dual immersion program, where 50% of the instruction is delivered in Spanish and 50% in English.
Approximately 90% of our students qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program, and 85% are English language learners, designating this population as low socioeconomic level, and our school as a Title I school.
Despite low resources, all of my students have and demonstrate great potential in learning with inquisitive questions and ideas.
My Project
I am requesting anti-blue light glasses and ethnic studies lessons from Teachers Pay Teachers' website. With online learning, comes more time spent in front of a screen. My young academics spend a minimum of three hours a day in front of their iPads.
Anti-blue glasses for each of my second graders will help alleviate the strain on their developing eyes as they work hard to complete assignments.
Another resource to facilitate distance learning is obtaining digital lesson ideas inspired by other amazing educators from the website Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT). For example, Read Like a Rockstar, on TPT has a lesson on Indigenous Peoples' Day to discuss a more complete story on how Columbus Day and Thanksgiving came about. This educator also has monthly themed lessons to discuss topics on ableism and culture. These digitized lessons will save time and energy when they are from other caring experts in the field of education.
