Anthropomorphic Animation Time with Kathleen Lolley!
My students need a professional digital animator to visit our school. She will help bring my students' personal writing to life and challenge their intellectual lives.
My students are artists who think about the world and their learning in an abstract way. They come from diverse backgrounds and are all very proud to go to our school, which serves as their home away from home.
My classes are mixed levels, and every student has a particular talent that allows them to shine, in and out of the classroom.
They all are committed to various art forms, and look for ways to incorporate themes and ideas from our class into their work.
My Project
This project will bring Kathleen Lolley to South Carolina for a series of digital animation workshops with my students. Kathleen Lolley is a visual artist who blends folklore, nature, and literary histories to magical effect. Lolley received a BFA in Experimental Animation from The California Institute of the Arts where she honed her storytelling skills. She has experience with set building and various forms of animation including puppet, sand, cut out, clay and paint. In addition to providing artwork for the feature film The Little Prince (2017) as well as episodes of Spongebob and the Adventure Time comic (Banana Guard Academy #5 cover), Lolley has worked on several commercial animations and has created a handful of short films.
Ms. Lolly has experience teaching animation in diverse settings that range from formal classrooms to private art studios.
Her teaching style is straightforward, hands-on, and encourages creative problem solving to help students achieve their desired effect.
This project will make a dramatic difference in the lives of over 75 students by providing them with an opportunity to work with a renowned artist adept at teaching digital animation and storytelling.
Lolley will lead students through the creation of digital animation projects that incorporate writing mechanics and grammar rules we've learned in class this year. Students will create an anthropomorphic story using these rules as their guide.
Imagine a comma that finally finds its friends in the form of a list (serial comma), or a dangling modifier that artfully finds a place to land. The bonus is that our school will be able to use these short films to enhance future lesson plans, and we'll be able to share them with other English classes in our school district.
