Answers are Important: Chromebooks Help us Get Them Faster
Help me give my students Chromebooks! We need answers, and we want them quickly! Fewer than half of my students have devices they can bring into the classroom; we need more devices to explore and research.
Living in a rural community in Northeast Alabama lends itself to a certain "special" breed of students. While most of the students are keenly interested in using technology to learn, we are not a 1:1 school, nor do most of the students have reliable internet access in their homes; however, what our students lack in resources, they more than makeup for in other areas.
My students have proven themselves to be compassionate, eager, open-minded thinkers who enjoy the challenges associated with a rigorous education.
Not only are my students willing to put their ideas and feelings out there in front of their classmates, but also listen to differing opinions without judgment or malice. Truly, my rural, Title I students are global learners and thinkers and I am so fortunate to spend my days with them.
My Project
Questions! Each day I have questions that spring to mind and I want immediate answers. I am fortunate to have shelves of reference books as well as multiple internet-enabled devices at my disposal to quickly find those answers. My students are not as lucky, More than half of my 8th-grade students have no device to bring to class, and therefore, no way to quickly find the answer to those burning questions. Curiosity is vital to learning and understanding and it must not be silenced. My students need devices that they can use to quickly find answers to those burning questions they have.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to increase student learning, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic achievement through satisfying their natural desire to know "why" something is the way it is.
With technology at their fingertips, students will be able to quickly research terms, ideas, and concepts in the moment, without the shame and stigma of not having a device.
