What did you dream of being, when you were a child? An actor, singer, dancer, performer, or anything else in the performing arts? Many of us had these dreams, but never had the opportunity to explore them. My students are given that opportunity, but they need the stage to match their passion!
I teach 1st grade ESL in a Title I urban school.
My students come from many different ethnic, academic, and economic backgrounds.
Yet, when you look at the students in the classroom, you would have no idea. They all act as equals, accepting each others differences. They are blind to different races and backgrounds, which is so beautiful to see. The diversity in our school is both inspiring and amazing! These students are looking for better opportunities in the area in which they live. Although we may not have the funding and the supplies that some of the other schools may have, we have the opportunities: opportunities to shine and grow as individuals in a place where they are given a chance! They are given a chance to speak their mind, learn new material, and be anything and everything they want to be!
My Project
My students are working on a musical called "Annie". Many of them are memorizing their lines and learning how to overcome their jitters and perform their lines with expression in front of the audience.
"Annie" was chosen especially for this class, because of their individual and ensemble talent.
Everybody has to be a part of a musical at some point. Those students who are singers can help the others who might never have taken a music class before.
The costumes and the 2 backdrops will bring this show to life, and provide a great experience for cast and audience. This class is a very talented and appreciative group. Thank you so much for considering our project.
