Help me give my students supplies to become young animators and digital artists. I want to purchase computer tablets and non-drying clay so that my students can create art that moves using digital media.
Over half of my students come from low-income families in Chattanooga, TN. Others are learning English for the first time. My school is very diverse. However, the students are all energetic boys and girls full of potential and capable of greatness. Despite their challenges, they are a group of boys and girls that love to laugh, sing, play video games and race outdoors. They enjoy using their imagination, and talking endlessly to their friends, expressing themselves creatively whenever they get the chance.
They also have worked very hard to improve their grades.
My school recently went from very low scores to an A-rated school in a year due to the diligence and tenacity of the students who have studied so hard to be the best.
My Project
My project is to have my students use digital tablets and clay to make stop motion animation and gain experience with other forms of digital art like photography and graphic design at an early age. I currently am an art teacher at a school that does not have an art room or a kiln or any digital devices set aside for art. So, this project will enable my students to create digital artwork in a way that would not be feasible otherwise.
I plan to give my students hands-on experience with free digital art programs and guide them in creating animated short films which can be screened locally and screened at events both regional and abroad.
They would also have the opportunity to create posters, photographs, and comic books with the use of tablets along with various free drawing and graphics apps.
This process will be documented online through images and video. Once the projects are complete they will be displayed and screened publically for the school's community showcase and students will have gained insight into the process of making digital art and animation.
