Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My second grade students would great benefit from knowledge they can research about on how animals adapt and survive in different environments.
By providing multi-leveled texts they will be able to successfully gather enough information to complete a thorough report on an animal that is part of the required curriculum of all second graders.
By providing a variety of learning experiences, they will have enough information that will allow them to be successful regardless of their reading ability.
My students come from low-income families, and additionally, family experiences may be limited due to parental limitations in providing for their children. The science materials I am requesting would be student-friendly allowing for differences in both ability and experiences.
My Project
My second graders need experiences that will provide them with concrete examples how animals interact with their environment. The science series I am requesting will allow them to see first hand what effects the environment has on how they compete for food, what identifies a predator from a prey, and other relevant science-related material.
By providing information in a multi-subject texts they will learn about food chains, where animals find shelter, what they eat, and their enemies.
Additionally, they will learn about animals that are becoming extinct, and what is being done to protect them. Students will also learn how protective agencies work.
