My Students

I teach a very diverse group of second graders who love learning about the natural world. We are in a Title I school and many of my students are English Language Learners (ELL).

Despite the challenges many of my students face in their daily lives, they love to ask "why" and challenge themselves to be better every day.

Please help give my students the opportunity to practice science in the classroom and grow in their ability to understand and explain the natural world.

My Project

Science should be a hands-on experience! Second graders learn about animal life cycles by watching videos and doing crafts. Wouldn't it be so much more meaningful to witness animal life cycles first hand?

With this project students will be able to experience three different creatures as they grow and change!

What better way for 7 and 8 year-olds to learn about life cycles?

We will learn all about metamorphosis as we watch a beautiful Luna Moth emerge from its cocoon. We will learn responsibility as we take care of a tadpole as it becomes a frog. We will also watch as eggs hatch into hornworms, create a cocoon, and emerge as a moth. Incredible!
