Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the STEM lab teacher at a Title 1 school in a large urban school district. I teach all students, K-5, in my school. My students come to me for science every day. They learn about science through a variety of formats - texts, experiments, challenges, videos, and technology. We use ChromeBooks/iPads on a daily basis to supplement our learning.
Help us explore animal life cycles!
My students and I love science, but we do not have all the resources available for hands-on exploration for our Animal Life Cycles unit. Please help us to learn more about animal life cycles with live animal kits in the classroom.
My students love that we learn about science in so many different ways. Their diversity is reflected in the diverse ways that they learn. My students would love to be able to have all the resources they need to learn everything they can.
My Project
The live animal kits in this project will allow my students to observe and experience the life cycles of each of the animals in a much more profound and meaningful way than just reading about them in books. The animal kits included in this project contain: ladybugs, caterpillars (butterflies), earthworms, darkling beetles, ants, fruit flies, and a praying mantis egg sac. The students will be responsible for caring for the animals as we observe them. We will also read about each of the animals and their life cycles using books that I received in past Donorschoose projects.
I want to provide my students with every opportunity to learn.
Reading a book gives you some knowledge, but there is nothing quite like being able to put your hands on the subject you are studying. I try to expose my students to experiences that they might not normally have, to help broaden their minds and encourage them to think.
