Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently in charge of 135 wonderful 9th grade students. They all have academic curiosity and often express interest and enthusiasm in the many themes, topics, and lessons we cover in our English class.
My students are avid learners who often challenge themselves and their classmates in academic environments.
From getting to know these wonderful students, I am aware of their social and economic backgrounds. The majority of my students come from low-income backgrounds, are bilingual learners, and are first-generation sons/daughters of immigrant parents. Thus, they benefit from inclusive curriculum that supports their needs and books that reflect their own economic and cultural background.
My Project
For our third unit of this school semester my students will be learning to apply thematic concepts into the real world.
As of right now, my students have limited access to books from our school inventory.
Additionally our school does not carry copies of this books for student use. Asking students to pay out of pocket for this book is out of the question as most of my student population is from a low-income background. Thus, to ensure that all students have access to this novel it would be essential to add this book to our personal classroom library and allow students to borrow the books for the duration of the unit.
This unit is especially important as students will now begin to apply thematic concepts in the novel onto real world scenarios. Please help us fund and grow our humble classroom library inventory.
