My Project

Working with 8th grade special education students requires some creativity to allow them access to the curriculum. Reading Animal Farm by George Orwell will provide them with a different and interesting way to view society. Having it as a graphic novel will allow them to enjoy reading the book and gain a better understanding of the plot, themes, and characters.

Animal Farm, a classic allegorical novella by George Orwell, remains highly relevant for 8th grade students due to its timeless themes and powerful social commentary.

Set on a farm where animals overthrow their human oppressors, the story serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of totalitarianism, corruption of power, and the manipulation of language for propaganda. Through relatable animal characters and a straightforward narrative, the novel provides a thought-provoking exploration of political systems, equality, and individual rights, encouraging young readers to question authority and critically examine the societies they inhabit. Its relevance to historical and contemporary events makes Animal Farm an essential read that not only enhances literary analysis skills but also fosters a deeper understanding of human nature and the significance of upholding democratic principles.
