This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am so excited to host an adapted field day for our self-contained students in our district. This allows our students to play games with each other and not worry about winning or losing. Regular sports is difficult for our students because of needing modified tasks and equipment that fits their needs. Our students don’t understand win and lose due to their social disabilities. With having an adapted field day they get to play with equipment that is adapted for their use. They build social skills and learn how to take turns with each other.

Adapted field day is a day of modified games for our students to be independent and have fun.

Our students will enjoy playing with the different sports and sensory equipment that meets their needs. The Slot Cones Obstacle Course allows them to work gross motor skills that require whole body movement. This will help them with everyday activities such as walking and standing. The croquet and golf equipment will work on eye and hand coordination while playing these games. The students will be following a marked path with the jumping ball with the handles. The handles allow them to keep their balance as they jump around the path. Sensory difficulties is something our kids deal with every day. To have the Sensory Kids water and activity table with the erasers, bubble beads, and bubbles will help our students to work on their sensory difficulties.

I am so excited to see my students and the other students in the district running, playing games, learning social skills with their peers and just having fun.
