My students need materials such as felt story sets, read-along cassette books, Self-Adhesive Library Pockets, and a literacy bag for an independent reading center where they can retell and recreate their favorite stories.

I teach in the library of an inner-city elementary school where most of the students love stories and reading!

Some children, however, are too shy or withdrawn to participate. They need a quiet, independent center where they can retell and dramatize the stories by themselves, or in a small group. I know they would love to interact with the story like their classmates but their shyness interferes. I want this new center to be non-threatening and fun!

I am asking for flannel stories for the boys and girls to use by themselves to retell and recreate the stories we read to the total group. I also need familiar fairy tale stories the children feel comfortable dramatizing. Additionally, I am asking for story cassettes so individual students can listen to the stories by themselves.

Your help will make it possible for even quiet students we sometimes cannot reach to participate in our reading activities!
