I teach many English language learners who are anxious to succeed and learn something new each day! We have a dedicated staff of teachers at our school who bring their best to the class and to each and every lesson they teach.
Some of my students come from homes that do not have everyday technology, such as home computers or even basic Internet access.
I teach at a Title I school where roughly half of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. They are working their hardest to try to learn as much as they can and to develop good study skills.
My Project
My students love to read! This year my students have been doing more reading than the past several year's classes and I am so thrilled! They are loving our classroom Book Clubs and I want to continue to encourage them to read and discuss books together! Last year, in March, my co-worker and I set up a Book Bracket Challenge for our students. Using books that were high interest texts or had been nominated for the California Young Reader Medal, we set up a March Madness Style bracketing system. The students then read each of the books and voted on a winner, ultimately culminating in one overall winner for our grade level.
In preparation for our March Madness Book Bracket Challenge, I would like to give my students access to this year's California Young Reader Medal Award nominee books.
We would like to have multiple copies of these books so that students can read them together in their book clubs! We would also like to build up the section in our library on inclusion and strong female characters. Increased literacy is the number one way to build strong students! Thank you for helping my students become better, stronger, and more focused readers, students, and citizens!
